FreeBSD/IRAF (PC-IRAF) port
Tue Jul 16 18:38:15 MST 1996
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FreeBSD lepus 2.2-960612-SNAP FreeBSD 2.2-960612-SNAP
Gateway P5-166, 64 MB RAM, 2 GB disk, Matrox MGA, 21" Vivitron
HP DAT, SMC PCI-bus 10 Mb/s Ethernet

This port to FreeBSD is being done using IRAF V2.11DEVELOP and the Linux HSI.
The goal is to produce a single version of IRAF which can run on both Linux
and FreeBSD, using separate architectures for each.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

mkpkg
noao/mkpkg
	Added "freebsd" architecture. (7/16)

bin.freebsd +
noao/bin.freebsd +
	Added "bin.freebsd" bindirs. (7/16)

unix/hlib/motd
This IRAF release will be called "PC-IRAF" rather than FreeBSD/IRAF,
since the intent is to support all PC-IRAF operating systems as
	architectures. (7/16)

unix/hlib/irafuser.csh
	1. Now supports both Linux and FreeBSD.
	2. Compile flags are -O -DBSD -w -Wunused.
	3. Link flags -static -lcompat. Currently using the compatibility
library -lcompat for rexec (and ftime). BSD doesn't like rexec but
there doesn't appear to be much of any alternative. (7/16)

unix/hlib/cl.csh
unix/hlib/fc.csh
unix/hlib/install
Modified to autosense the system type and to support both Linux and
	FreeBSD. (7/16)

unix/hlib/mkpkg.inc
unix/hlib/mkpkg.sf.FBSD
	Added support for FreeBSD. (7/16)

unix/as.freebsd/zsvjmp.s
Using the Linux (i386) version of this file; the only difference is
that the jump point is _setjmp for BSD, ___setjmp for Linux. (7/16)

unix/os/irafpath.c
	Added "freebsd". (7/16)

unix/os/zfaloc.c
unix/os/zfiobf.c
unix/os/zfioks.c
unix/os/zfiotx.c
Added <unistd.h>, lseek type changed to off_t. This appears to be
	the new standard. (7/16)

unix/os/zxwhen.c
Extensive changes/additions for BSD. FreeBSD appears to have fairly
complete exception handling facilities (including the IEEE exceptions).
Linux was weak in this area. (7/16)

unix/boot/mkpkg/host.c
BSD does not use ELF, but does use ranlib. Symbolic link resolution
	appears to be required. (7/16)

unix/boot/spp/xc.c
Since both BSD and Linux are GNU/F2C-based XC is very similar for
both systems. Minor changes to support FreeBSD, such as adding
-lcompat to the host libraries, and disabling the ELF/aout stuff
	except for Linux. (7/16)

unix/boot/spp/xpp/xppcode.c
Changed "warn" to a static function. BSD has a library function
called warn, caused linker conflicts. (7/16)

pkg/dataio/fits/fits_wheader.x
pkg/images/filters/median.x
pkg/images/imarith/icscale.x
pkg/images/tv/imexamine/iepos.x
pkg/xtools/gtools/gtcolon.x
pkg/xtools/inlfit/ingresults.gx
Assorted bugs detected at compile time by F2C. (not sure the warnings
	are getting disabled). (7/16)

sys/imfort/bfio.x
In zfaloc, the first arg to strpak was changed from fname (a Fortran
character variable which was incorrect) to sppname. (7/17)

noao/artdata/lists/stcolon.x
	Variable lumfuncs not used. (7/17)

noao/digiphot/daophot/psf/dpmkpsf.x
	dp_addstar called incorrectly. (7/17)

noao/onedspec/dispcor/dcio.x
	Variable axis never used. (7/17)

noao/onedspec/identify/idshift.x
	Function/subroutine confusion. (7/17)

noao/onedspec/sensfunc/sfoutput.x
	Variable axis never used. (7/17)

noao/onedspec/splot/getimage.x
gt_setr called with an integer value. (7/17)

noao/onedspec/t_fitprofs.x
pargi called with boolean argument. (7/17)

noao/rv/rvfgauss.x
A couple of _old varables were declared but never used. (7/17)

noao/twodspec/apextract/apids.x
Variables ra, dec declared double but used as both pointers and
	doubles. (7/17)

noao/twodspec/longslit/transform/t_transform.x
	Variable axis not used. (7/17)

noao/imred/ccdred/src/t_ccdmask.x
Procedure cm_mask called with wrong arguments. (7/17)

noao/imred/ccdred/ccdtest/t_mkimage.x
	Variable pixtypes not used. (7/17)

noao/imred/dtoi/hdicfit/hdicebars.x
noao/imred/dtoi/hdicfit/hdicfit.h
noao/imred/dtoi/hdicfit/hdicgfit.x
noao/imred/dtoi/hdicfit/hdicggraph.x
	Various type related problems. (7/17)

dev/hosts
Updated entry for lepus, which is no longer an A/UX system. (7/19)

unix/boot/mkpkg/host.c
unix/boot/mkpkg/main.c
unix/boot/mkpkg/mkpkg.h
unix/boot/mkpkg/scanlib.c
Various mods to support source code debugging. Mkpkg now supports
the -x flag. If this is seen -x will be added to all flag defines
(XFLAGS, XVFLAGS, LFLAGS). Mkpkg, whenever a library is referenced,
will check for a debug version of the library. For example if the
library is libsys.a the debug version is libsys_p.a. Calling mkpkg
as "mkpkg -x" automatically causes the _p.a versions of all libraries
to be updated, creating them and doing a full recompile if necessary,
without having to edit any mkpkg or mkpkg.inc files to modify the
compile/link flags. The normal and debug versions of all libraries
	are maintained independently. (7/20)

unix/boot/spp/xc.c
XC was also modified to support debugging via the -x switch. Defining
the -x switch causes it to be passed on to xpp, rpp, and f77 which
is necessary to compile for debuging. The -x switch also causes XC
to look for _p.a (debug) versions of any libraries. For example,
if the command line is "-x libpkg.a -lstg" then XC will look for
libpkg_p.a and libstg_p.a, falling back on the normal versions of
the libraries if the debug versions are not found. (7/20)

unix/hlib/f77.sh
If the -x switch is given the intermediate C file is edited to replace
	any "file.f" references with "file.x". (7/20)

unix/boot/spp/rpp/rpprat/common
unix/boot/spp/rpp/rpprat/errchk.r
unix/boot/spp/rpp/rpprat/initkw.r
unix/boot/spp/rpp/rpprat/outdon.r
unix/boot/spp/rpp/rpprat/ratfor.r
RPP was modified to generate "#line file.x" statements in the output
Fortran code to support source code debugging. This is done only if
the -x flag is set. F2C supports #line but most Fortran compilers
	do not. (7/20)

unix/boot/spp/rpp/rpprat/Makefile
Added a call to sed to workaround a ratfor bug (generates an
unreachable statement). This makes "make fort" fully automatic.
This is used to generate the .f files from the .r files. (7/20)

The PC-IRAF (FreeBSD) HSI was erased in a botched rdist update from tucana.
Reloaded from a 3-Sep-96 backup tape. Tue Oct 29 16:05:37 MST 1996
